Pension Information
As employees of Norfolk & Waveney Mental Health Foundation Trust, you are eligible to join the NHS Pension Scheme if you are aged between 16 and 75. Full details of the scheme can be found by contacting the Resourcing Team for a Scheme Guide, or by clicking www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/pensions
Anyone who starts working for the NHS automatically becomes a member of the NHS Pension Scheme 2008. However, membership is voluntary and you can opt not to join or leave the Scheme at any time. As a Scheme member you pay a contribution towards your pension based upon your pensionable pay; the more you earn, the higher your contribution rate may be. The Trust contributes an amount equal to 14% of your pensionable pay.
There are four rates of member contribution, ranging from 5% of pensionable pay for the lowest earners, to 8.5% of pensionable pay for the highest. Contributions are taken from your pay before tax so you receive tax relief on any amount you pay. You may also pay a lower rate of National Insurance. The Scheme also provides a lump sum and pension benefits to your dependents in the event of your death whilst in membership.
If you are in any doubt about which pension arrangements will be the best for you, you should seek independent financial advice.
